DESCRIPTION:The Maha Quiz Contest 2025–2026\, a prestigious interschool quiz championship\, was held on 8th August 2025 at  A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women\, Thoothukudi. Fourteen higher secondary schools from across Thoothukudi enthusiastically participated in this annual academic extravaganza\, showcasing the brilliance and competitive spirit of young minds. \nParticipants registering at the Registration Desk.\nThe inaugural session commenced with a warm and inspiring Welcome Address delivered by the Principal\, Dr. K. Subbulakshmi\, setting the tone for a day of knowledge\, challenge\, and camaraderie. The contest featured three categories – Mathematics Quiz\, Science Quiz\, and General Knowledge Quiz – each designed to rigorously test the participants’ depth of knowledge\, presence of mind\, and teamwork. \n  \nInaugural Address by our Principal ma’am – Dr. K. Subbulakshmi\nThe General Knowledge Quiz was conducted with precision by Dr. C. Chitra Chellam\, Head and Assistant Professor of Commerce\, Dr. E. Vasuki\, Assistant Professor of Tamil\, Dr. L. Sangeetha\, Head & Assistant Professor of History\, and Dr. K.S. Anushya\, Assistant Professor of English. \nDr. K. S. Anushya serves as the Quiz Mistress for General Knowledge Quiz\nThe Science Quiz was expertly managed by Dr. V. Sornalakshmi\, Assistant Professor of Botany\, Dr. S. Sankara Vadivu\, Assistant Professor of Chemistry\, Mrs. A. Jane\, Assistant Professor of Computer Science\, and Dr. N. Rathna\, Head & Assistant Professor of Physics. \nDr. S. Sankara Vadivu serves as the Quiz Mistress for Science Quiz\nThe Mathematics Quiz was ably coordinated by Dr. V. Mahalakshmi and Dr. R. Rajeswari\, Assistant Professors of Mathematics. \nDr. V. Mahalakshmi serves as the Quiz Mistress for Mathematics Quiz\nDuring the Valedictory Session Dr. N. Rathna\, delivered a Valedictory Address\, reflecting on the importance of such competitions in shaping confident and intellectually sharp young leaders. \nDr. N. Rathna delivering the Valedictory Address\nIn the General Knowledge Quiz\, X’an Matric Higher Secondary School emerged as the champions\, winning Rs. 3000 and a Silver Rolling Shield\, followed by D.M.N.S. Dr. Sivanthi Adithanar Matriculation School with the second prize of Rs. 2000\, and St. Joseph’s Girls’ Higher Secondary School with the third prize of Rs. 1000. \nWinners of General Quiz – X’an Matric Hr. Sec. School\, Thoothukudi\nIn the Science Quiz\, SPIC Nagar Higher Secondary School clinched the first prize\, receiving Rs. 3000 and a Silver Rolling Shield\, while Subbiah Vidhyalayam Girls’ Higher Secondary School bagged the second prize of Rs. 2000\, and X’an Matric Higher Secondary School took home the third prize of Rs. 1000. \nWinners of Science Quiz – SPIC Nagar Higher Secondary School\nIn the Mathematics Quiz\, the first prize of Rs. 3000 along with a Silver Rolling Shield was secured by Smt. P. Thangammal Higher Secondary School\, the second prize of Rs. 2000 was won by Subbiah Vidhyalayam Girls’ Higher Secondary School\, and the third prize of Rs. 1000 was claimed by Alagar Public School. \nWinners of Mathematics Quiz – Smt. P. Thangammal Higher Secondary School\, Thoothukudi\nThe prize distribution was followed by a Vote of Thanks by Dr. K.S. Anushya\, who acknowledged the contributions of all participants\, coordinators\, volunteers and and the generous sponsorships extended by various faculty members and alumnae of the college. DESCRIPTION:The P.G. & Research Department of English of A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women\, in collaboration with Alpha Academy\, Coimbatore\, organized a One Day Workshop on “Overview on Literature in NET Perspective” on 7th August 2025 at Dr. A.L. Mudaliar Hall. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. K.A. Pauline and Ms. A. Amreen Farjana\, Assistant Professors of English. The resource person\, Ms. Sabarna Suresh\, M.A.\, NET\, M.Sc. Yoga\, founder of Alpha Academy\, Coimbatore\, and a multiple-time NET qualifier\, delivered the sessions. The workshop was structured into two sessions: 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.\n\nThe programme commenced with a prayer song\, followed by a welcome address by Ms. A. Amreen Farjana. In the morning session\, the resource person provided a comprehensive overview of British Literature from the perspective of the NET syllabus. The afternoon session focused on memory techniques and shortcut methods to recall facts effectively\, along with an emphasis on the significance of Paper I. A quiz competition was also conducted to enhance engagement\, and scores were awarded to motivate participants. The workshop concluded with feedback from students\, who expressed that the sessions had enriched their understanding of key literary concepts\, authors\, and movements relevant to the NET examination. A Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. K.A. Pauline.\n

Mrs. Rajalakshmi B.Sc.\, B.L.\, an alumna of the college (2004–2006)\, and a member of SPARK\, addressed the audience from 1.30 to 2.15 p.m. on the topic “Drug-Free Tamil Nadu.” The second session was led by Mrs. Rajamahizhndha B.A.\, B.L.\, Advocate at the District Court\, Thoothukudi\, who spoke from 2.20 to 3.00 p.m. on “Cyber Safety and Social Media Threats.” The event was coordinated by Dr. H. Students were introduced to 20 different AI applications\, including tools for image processing\, text generation\, and multimedia content creation. The interactive sessions enabled students to explore practical uses of AI\, enhancing their digital competency and preparing them for emerging trends in the business world. The workshop received enthusiastic participation and proved to be a highly enriching experience for all attendees.

Adding further inspiration\, Ms. Shenbagavalli\, a student of Khins Academy and a successful TNPSC Group II qualifier\, shared her experiences and motivated the students to remain focused and work diligently towards their goals. Saravana Kumar\, Editor and Green Force Coordinator\, in the esteemed presence of Mr. J.S. Elias\, Principal of the host school\, Shri. Satish Kumar\, Hon. To reinforce the message\, paper bags\, vegetable seeds\, and horticultural saplings were distributed to students\, encouraging sustainable alternatives to plastic usage. \nThe saplings were planted within the school premises by the Headmaster\, Dr. Saravana Kumar\, and the NSS Coordinators of both units. A cleanliness drive was also undertaken by the school students\, promoting hygiene and responsibility. In a practical session\, Dr. Saravana Kumar provided training on waste segregation and the preparation of vermicompost\, highlighting efforts undertaken by women self-help groups and swachhagrahis as part of the National Welfare Mission. Seeds and cloth bags were also distributed to the general public at the nearby bus stand\, further extending the campaign’s impact. The entire event was efficiently organized under the guidance of Dr. C. Stella Packiam (NSS Unit 47)\, Assistant Professor of Chemistry\, and Dr. M. Pushpagavalli (NSS Unit 57)\, Assistant Professor of Tamil. The programme witnessed active participation from 15 students and 3 faculty members\, leaving a meaningful impression on the community and reinforcing the college’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Maheshwari\, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and NAAC Coordinator. Dr. P. Karpagavinayagam\, Engineer – Environment\, DCW Ltd\, Sahupuram\, was honored by Dr. M. Mahalaxmi College for Women\, in collaboration with Sara Dental Clinic\, Thoothukudi\, organised a Free Dental Camp on 15th July 2025 at the Government Higher Secondary School\, Sorispuram\, from 10:00 a.m. onwards. \n \nThe camp was aimed at promoting oral health awareness and providing basic dental care to school students. A dedicated team of dental professionals carried out screenings\, offered expert consultations\, and sensitised students on the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene. A large number of students benefited from the camp\, receiving timely guidance and referrals where needed. The initiative was warmly welcomed by the school community and stood as a testament to the department’s commitment to extending the values of health\, care\, and social responsibility beyond the classroom.

Her interactive and thought-provoking approach kept the participants thoroughly engaged throughout the session. \nA total of 83 students took part in the programme. The event was well-received\, with students appreciating the relevance of the topics discussed and the clarity with which they were presented. Students observed the core functions of cargo handling\, documentation\, warehousing\, and customs clearance processes. \n   \n   \n \nMeanwhile\, 45 students from Batch III visited Prompt Terminals Pvt. Ltd.\, gaining practical knowledge of terminal operations\, container movement\, and port infrastructure. Interactions with logistics professionals gave the students deeper insights into international trade practices and port-based logistics management. \n \n \n \nThis visit enabled students to connect theoretical learning with industrial practices and enhanced their understanding of commerce-related domains such as supply chain management\, foreign trade\, and maritime logistics. The department continues to facilitate such academic-industry linkages to build career-ready graduates.

The event brought together faculty\, students\, and representatives from both institutions\, all united in a shared goal: to make historical studies more relevant\, applied\, and immersive.

DESCRIPTION:The Department of History conducted an intensive eight-day Internship Training Programme on “Inscriptions and Excavation” in collaboration with the Government Museum\, Madurai\, and the Pandiyanadu Cultural Foundation\, Madurai.\nThe programme included expert led sessions on the fundamentals of archaeology\, epigraphy\, and the study of ancient Tamil scripts. As part of the hands-on learning component\, students participated in field training and interacted directly with scholars in the discipline.\nOn 3rd July 2025\, students visited the Krishnapuram Temple\, where they received detailed insights into temple architecture\, iconography\, and the significance of inscriptions. The visit also included discussions on major excavation sites such as Adichanallur and Sivakalai\, offering students a broader understanding of Tamil Nadu’s archaeological heritage.\nFurther sessions introduced students to ancient scripts\, with practical training in interpreting Tamil-Brahmi and Vatteluttu. The academic modules also covered topics such as Hero Stones\, monographs\, and their relevance in historical reconstruction.\nThrough a combination of lectures\, fieldwork\, and script training\, the internship provided students with foundational exposure to the methods and materials used in historical research and archaeological exploration.
