DESCRIPTION:The Department of Zoology at A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women organized a special program in Thoothukudi on July 28\, 2025\, in observance of World Nature Conservation Day\, to celebrate nature and promote environmental awareness. \nThe inauguration of the program was held at 1:20 PM with a solemn prayer song rendered by students\, setting the tone for a thoughtful and inspiring afternoon. Distinguished guests were honored during the event. Mr. R. Ravikumar\, General Manager – Environment\, MR-IMS and SCSMS\, DCW Ltd\, Sahupuram\, was felicitated by Dr. V. Maheshwari\, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and NAAC Coordinator. Dr. P. Karpagavinayagam\, Engineer – Environment\, DCW Ltd\, Sahupuram\, was honored by Dr. M. Muthukani\, Head and Assistant Professor of Zoology. \n \nThe welcome address was delivered by Dr. T. Sakthika\, Assistant Professor of Zoology\, who emphasized the importance of engaging youth in nature conservation. The chief guests were introduced by Dr. K.N. Sudhandrakarthi and Dr. M. Muthukani\, Assistant Professors of Zoology. \nSession I\, held from 1:30 PM to 2:15 PM\, focused on an “Oath to Conserve Nature”\, led by Mr. R. Ravikumar\, urging students to commit themselves to sustainable practices. Session II\, titled “Cherishing the Grace of Nature: A Conservation Perspective”\, was delivered by Dr. P. Karpagavinayagam\, who provided practical insights into conservation efforts and the role of the community in preserving biodiversity. \nStudents who actively participated and answered questions during the sessions were recognized and awarded. Prize winners included Ms. C.Venishree\, Ms. M.Mariselvi\, Ms.M. Keshiya\, Ms. S.Gayathri of III B.Sc Zoology\, and Ms. M.Mareeshwari of II B.Sc Zoology. The program concluded with a heartfelt feedback session by Ms.M. Keshiya\, a student of III B.Sc Zoology\, who shared reflections on the day’s learning’s. \nThe event was a successful initiative in sensitizing students toward environmental conservation and the urgent need to protect nature for future generations.

DESCRIPTION:As part of its community service initiatives\, the Department of Commerce (Aided) of A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women\, in collaboration with Sara Dental Clinic\, Thoothukudi\, organised a Free Dental Camp on 15th July 2025 at the Government Higher Secondary School\, Sorispuram\, from 10:00 a.m. onwards. \n \nThe camp was aimed at promoting oral health awareness and providing basic dental care to school students. A dedicated team of dental professionals carried out screenings\, offered expert consultations\, and sensitised students on the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene. A large number of students benefited from the camp\, receiving timely guidance and referrals where needed. The initiative was warmly welcomed by the school community and stood as a testament to the department’s commitment to extending the values of health\, care\, and social responsibility beyond the classroom.

Rohini\, M.A.\, M.Sc.\, M.Phil.\, a Counselling Psychologist\, Counsellor\, and Assistant Professor at St. Mary’s College (Autonomous)\, Thoothukudi. \nMs. Rohini orienting our dynamic Students\nMs. Rohini offered practical insights into the dynamics of communication\, emphasizing strategies that are essential for both academic success and personal growth. Her interactive and thought-provoking approach kept the participants thoroughly engaged throughout the session. \nA total of 83 students took part in the programme. The event was well-received\, with students appreciating the relevance of the topics discussed and the clarity with which they were presented. The session not only improved their understanding of strategic communication but also motivated them to apply these skills in real-life scenarios. \n  \n  \n \n \nThe arrangements for this events were done by the faculty members of the Department of Physics.

DESCRIPTION:The PG & Research Department of Commerce organized an insightful Industrial Visit for the III B.Com students on 10.07.2025\, aimed at providing real-time exposure to port and logistics operations. A total of 114 students from Batch I and II visited the V.O. Chidambaranar Port\, Thoothukudi\, where they had the opportunity to explore JM BAXI Logistics\, a leading integrated logistics company operating within the port premises. Students observed the core functions of cargo handling\, documentation\, warehousing\, and customs clearance processes. \n   \n   \n \nMeanwhile\, 45 students from Batch III visited Prompt Terminals Pvt. Ltd.\, gaining practical knowledge of terminal operations\, container movement\, and port infrastructure. Interactions with logistics professionals gave the students deeper insights into international trade practices and port-based logistics management. \n \n \n \nThis visit enabled students to connect theoretical learning with industrial practices and enhanced their understanding of commerce-related domains such as supply chain management\, foreign trade\, and maritime logistics. The department continues to facilitate such academic-industry linkages to build career-ready graduates.

Department of Computer Science and Computer Application addressing the students\nThe fest featured interactive sessions on career opportunities in the IT sector\, engaging activities such as debugging challenges\, web design workshops\, and educational games. A highlight of the event was the participation of alumni from top multinational companies like TCS and CTS\, who shared insights into how their education at the college paved the way for successful careers in the tech industry. \nStudents actively participated in all activities\, demonstrating enthusiasm and a keen interest in the subject matter. As part of the hands-on learning component\, students participated in field training and interacted directly with scholars in the discipline.\nOn 3rd July 2025\, students visited the Krishnapuram Temple\, where they received detailed insights into temple architecture\, iconography\, and the significance of inscriptions. The visit also included discussions on major excavation sites such as Adichanallur and Sivakalai\, offering students a broader understanding of Tamil Nadu’s archaeological heritage.\nFurther sessions introduced students to ancient scripts\, with practical training in interpreting Tamil-Brahmi and Vatteluttu. The academic modules also covered topics such as Hero Stones\, monographs\, and their relevance in historical reconstruction.\nThrough a combination of lectures\, fieldwork\, and script training\, the internship provided students with foundational exposure to the methods and materials used in historical research and archaeological exploration.

SUMMARY:International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking – 26th June 2025
DESCRIPTION:In observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26th June 2025\, A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women\, Thoothukudi\, organized a series of awareness and cultural events aimed at sensitizing students to the harmful effects of drug abuse. The programme was conducted under the joint efforts of NSS Units (No. 47 & 57)\, Anti-Drug Cell\, NCC\, and the Sports Club of the college. \nAwareness Rally\nThe day’s events included an awareness rally\, an anti-drug pledge\, special lectures\, a pencil drawing competition\, slogan writing competitions in both Tamil and English\, a short film contest\, an exhibition\, and a series of engaging games. These activities drew the participation of nearly 120 students from various departments\, all of whom actively contributed to the event’s success.  \n \n \n        In the Pencil Drawing Competition\, Ms. A. Banupriya of III B.A. History\, Ms. K. Sakthi of II M.Sc. Mathematics\, and Ms. Narmatha Devi of II B.Sc. Chemistry were declared the winners. For the Tamil Slogan Writing Competition\, the winners were Ms. S. Subathra of III B.Sc. Mathematics\, Ms. Usha of II B.A. Tamil\, and Ms. J. Michel Deranciya of II B.Sc. Chemistry. In the English Slogan Writing category\, the prizes went to Ms. R. Esakki Devi of III B.Com. (III Batch)\, Ms. V. Malathy of I B.Sc. Mathematics\, and Ms. M. Mani Karthika of I B.Sc. Mathematics. \n \nThe Sports Club conducted a special segment titled “Break the Habits”\, a drug awareness game\, in which Ms. J. Absara and Ms. S. Puvila\, both from I B.Com. (I Batch)\, were recognized for their outstanding performance. \nThe observance provided a dynamic platform for students to express their views creatively and take a firm stand against drug abuse. The college continues its commitment to fostering awareness and creating a safe\, drug-free campus environment.

DESCRIPTION:The College Bazaar – An Exhibition by Women Self Help Groups is being conducted at A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women\, Thoothukudi\, from 24th to 26th June 2025\, between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. This initiative is organised under the aegis of Thiru. K. Elambahavath\, I.A.S.\, District Collector\, as part of Magalir Thittam\, a flagship socio-economic development programme for women empowerment in Tamil Nadu. \nThe exhibition features 17 stalls set up by Women Self Help Groups (WSHGs) from Thoothukudi District\, exhibiting and marketing a wide range of handmade products including jute bags\, palmyrah items\, women’s accessories\, handmade soaps\, herbal cosmetics\, oils\, ready-made garments\, wooden toys\, fur dolls\, and traditional food items. Two students from the Department of Commerce are assigned to each stall to assist in sales and gain experiential learning in marketing and entrepreneurial practices. \nThe event is formally inaugurated by Dr. K. Subbulakshmi\, Principal of the College\, in the distinguished presence of Mrs. Malliga\, Director\, Magalir Thittam\, Thoothukudi District. Mr. Velraj\, District Market and Sales Associate Manager\, extends his expert guidance in the coordination and establishment of the stalls\, thereby facilitating smooth participation by the SHGs. \nThe primary objective of the College Bazaar is to foster an entrepreneurial spirit among students\, offering them an opportunity to interact with grassroots women entrepreneurs and understand the operational dynamics of small-scale businesses. Faculty members and students participate with enthusiasm\, supporting the SHGs through active purchases and appreciation of their craft and business acumen. Mahalaxmi College for Women\, Thoothukudi\, in association with Gamesville Sports Academy\, Thoothukudi\, organized a three-day celebration to mark International Yoga Day. On 21st June 2025\, a Mass Yoga session was conducted on campus\, led by Ms. Revathi Sudhakar\, Yoga Instructor from Gamesville Sports Academy\, with the participation of around 55 students. On the following day\, 22nd June 2025\, yoga awareness pamphlets were distributed to the public to promote the significance of yoga in everyday life. The celebration concluded with a Workshop on Brain Yoga on 23rd June 2025\, conducted by Ms. S. Mareeswari\, a Pranic Healing Instructor from the Pranic Healing Centre\, Thoothukudi\, which saw the participation of approximately 450 students.
