This axiom has been the bedrock on which stands the inception and the ensuing growth of this reputed institution, A. P. C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Tuticorin.

Fuelled by an innate urge to empower the illiterate masses of his underdeveloped vicinity and thereby, build up a strong nation with patriotic and socially responsible citizens on the Gandhian principles of peace, non-violence and communal harmony, the institution was established by its Founder President, a well-known philanthropist, and freedom fighter, Kulapathy Shri. A. P. C. Veerabahu.
With the invaluable guidance of Prof. A. Srinivasa Ragavan, former Principal of V. O. Chidambaram College, Thoothukudi, the institution came into being, affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University with an initial strength of 212 students and 16 members of the teaching and non-teaching staff in 1973.

The foundation stone of its present premises located on the Thoothukudi – Madurai highway in Sankaraperi panchayat was laid on July 2nd, 1973, and it moved to its newly built campus in 1974.
Since then the institution has been on steady progress, and presently, it stands as a reputed institution of higher education and a renowned research centre in Thoothukudi district, affiliated to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, moulding the lives of more than 2,000 students every year with the able and efficient support of more than a hundred members of the teaching and non-teaching staff.
