A modest library set up in 1973 has evolved into a magnificent structure holding 1000 volumes of books. In 1999 the library was shifted and at present is situated in the heart of the campus spread around 7350 sq. mts. equipped with modern technology. All library functions are computerized with barcode technology. The library is equipped with an excellent collection of books, journals, e-journals and non-book materials in Science, Humanities, Management and General for the welfare of the students and the members of the staff. The library has a total collection of 29,514 volumes and also a good collection of reference materials, especially for Tamil literature. Books related to competitive exams are also available. Books are classified according to S.R.Ranganathan’s (Father of library Science) colon classification. It maintains a separate collection of donated books, bound volumes of journals, theses, etc., a modern digital library network with high speed internet and inflibnet facility (N-List e-resources) is also available in the library. Our major aim is to serve the needs of the faculty members, students, alumnae, retired staff members and research scholars. From the year 2010 onwards the Librarian along with the members of the Library advisory committee organizes an orientation programme to the new entrants to familiarize them with the facilities, available on library resources, services and to acquaint students with basic data base searching techniques. To encourage book reading among the students we conducted a one day seminar every year. Books purchased UGC XI plan and XII plan are displayed in the library in a separate rack allotted for the new arrivals. As a special treat on International Women’s day, books relating to women and books authored by women are exhibited in the library. To create awareness about our culture and heritage we conduct a test with the collaboration of Vivekananda Academy of cultural studies. To improve the vocabulary of the student’s five English words with them meanings are written on the blackboard every day. To enhance the ethical standards of the students, Thirukural with explanation is written on the blackboard everyday near the office. Thought for the day is also written on the board every day. Apart from these important current information is also displayed. Information on higher education, job opportunities and details regarding summer courses are sent to the respective departments. Library best user award, Voracious reader award, and the Best volunteer library service award are sponsored by the members of the teaching faculty.
