Commemoration of National Librarian Day – 12.08.2025

The A.P.C. Veerabahu Memorial Library and Library Advisory Committee of A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women, Thoothukudi, celebrated National Librarian Day on 12 August 2025 at 1:30 p.m. in Dr. M. Varadharajan Hall.
The programme commenced wi th the Welcome Address delivered by Dr. S. Sumathi, Librarian, who highlighted the significance of the day, observed in honour of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the father of library science in India.
Dr. K. Palani, Head & Associate Professor, PG & Research Department of Mathematics, served as the Resource Person. In her address, Dr. Palani emphasised the crucial role of libraries in supporting academic excellence, fostering a culture of reading, and promoting lifelong learning. She also stressed the need for libraries to adapt to the changing needs of the academic community in the digital era.
The Chief Guest was honoured with a memento by Dr. Monica Ramraj, Head & Associate Professor of English.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Sivakami Sundari, Associate Professor, who expressed gratitude to the management, principal, faculty members, and students for their enthusiastic participation and support.
The celebration served as an inspiring reminder of the enduring contribution of libraries to the intellectual and cultural growth of the institution.
