Department of History – Internship Training Programme – 01.07.2025 to 08.07.2025

The Department of History conducted an intensive eight-day Internship Training Programme on “Inscriptions and Excavation” in collaboration with the Government Museum, Madurai, and the Pandiyanadu Cultural Foundation, Madurai.
The programme included expert led sessions on the fundamentals of archaeology, epigraphy, and the study of ancient Tamil scripts. As part of the hands-on learning component, students participated in field training and interacted directly with scholars in the discipline

.On 3rd July 2025, students visited the Krishnapuram Temple, where they received detailed insights into temple architecture, iconography, and the significance of inscriptions. The visit also included discussions on major excavation sites such as Adichanallur and Sivakalai, offering students a broader understanding of Tamil Nadu’s archaeological heritage.



Further sessions introduced students to ancient scripts, with practical training in interpreting Tamil-Brahmi and Vatteluttu. The academic modules also covered topics such as Hero Stones, monographs, and their relevance in historical reconstruction.
Through a combination of lectures, fieldwork, and script training, the internship provided students with foundational exposure to the methods and materials used in historical research and archaeological exploration.
