Library Building

 In the beginning, the library started its service in a class room. And later, steps were taken by our President Thiru. A.P.C.V. Chockalingam and our Secretary Tmt. C. Subbulakshmi to improve the facility and the present library were inaugurated on 23^rd August 1999. The building was opened by Thiru. M.S. Ramaiah Pillai, President, V.O.C. Educational Society and the function was presided over by Dr. K.P. Aravanan, Vice Chancellor, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli.

The college library is situated in the heart of the campus spread over around 7350 sq.mts.  equipped with modern technology so as to provide the users the right information at the right time. It is automated with this software prepared by the Department of Computer Science of A.P.C. Mahalaxmi College for Women and V.O. Chidambaram College. The library catalogue is computerized and can be accessed from a terminal in the library. It provides access to a large number of online journals and is registered as a member of Infilbnet- N list, Sodhganga, Sodhsindhu. Apart from the general library, the department libraries are also functioning effectively. The library is open on all working days and its services are available from 9.15AM to 5.30 PM.

 Librarians

 Mrs. C.V. Ananthalakshmi, B.A., B.Lib. was the first librarian who served the library from 1978 to 2004. She was assisted by Mrs. Sankarammal. After her retirement, Miss. C.Parvathy, B.A., M.L.I.S., was in charge of the library and was assisted by Mrs. S. Vasantha B.A., M.L.I.S., M.Phil. Later, Dr. P. Essakiammal M.A., M.Phil., (Eng), M.L.I.S., Ph.D., was appointed as the Librarian on 21^st  July 2010. After her retirement, Dr. S. Vasantha B.A., M.L.I.S.,  M.Phil., Ph.D., E. Manimekala B.Com., M.L.I.S., And Later Mrs. B. Ganapathi Sankari B.Sc., M.L.I.S., . She was assisted by I. Priyadharshini B.Sc. And the present Librarian is Dr.S.Sumathi M.L.I.S., M.Phil., Ph.D.,

 Library Users

 Faculty members, research scholars, students, administrative staff, research scholars and faculty members from other institutions (with special permission) use this library. The members are provided with laminated bar coded library identity cards. The users are granted open access.

Library Contents

 The library has a total collection of 35,996 printed volumes of books. The library also consists of a good collection of reference materials, especially for Tamil Literature. Father of Library Science Dr. S.R. Ranganathan year of (1931) in classified Catalogue. All books are classified under “COLON CLASSIFICATION” in arrangement of Colon Classification order. MAHALIB 2.0 Software is used in our library. 25 Journals, 26 magazines and 8 newspapers are subscribed in our library.

 Library Activities

 To promote reading habit among the students, the library organizes various activities. The activity of the library advisory committee is instrumental in the advancement of the library facilities and the library activities are as follows: 

• Library motivates the students with “Best user award” every year.
• Orientation regarding the usage of the library to the freshers is given every year.
• Notice Board Employment News, Clippings, Thirrukkural on notice board, Student’s Donation their Birthday
• New Arrivals are also displayed in the library.
• Reading Competition, Book Review Competition, Vivekandha Test, Thirrukkural Test, Word Power Competition, Story Telling Competition, Essay Competition, Aptitude test, Reading habit, Quiz, Workshops, Seminars.
